After all the waiting, it’s finally here. The most expensive pre-season trading ever, in excess of £1 Billion traded and now with the 1st early closing window, what you’ve got is what you’ve got. So, tough, Spurs, no-one – who would have thought it!! Enough of that, these are the games that our football correspondent, Charlie Highbury fancies this weekend. Take a look and enjoy a Premier league in all it’s glory with some extra special deals from William Hill.
Manchester United vs Leicester – The season opener
Jose Mourinho begins the new season not from a position I’m sure that he would have liked. With Injuries to Matic, Valencia, Rojo and new signing Dalot and absent players after their world cup exploits resulting in Jose not having access to Marouane Fellaini, Jesse Lingard, Ashley Young, Paul Pogba, Phil Jones, and Romelu Lukaku. It really could be a torrid time for Jose in the Premier leagues opener and isnt he grumpy at the moment. Even with the loss of key player Riyad Mahrez, Leicester just seem to be one of those teams that can inflict damage to any club. With Vardy signing a new contract and Claude Puel having a very strong squad at his disposal it looks like the Foxes might snap up all three points here in this League clash. However as Manchester United don’t attack and can defend for 90 minutes I think we have a draw on the cards but possibly a Leicester win.
Wolves vs Everton
In times gone by most pundits would have said Everton would win without doubt wherever the two sides have gone head to head in league games, but with Wolves making quality signings such as Joao Moutinho and Rui Patricio and Everton also signings players such as Richarlison and Digne as well as loaning in Andre Gomes and buying Yerry Mina, this looks to be an exciting clash at the Molineaux with Wolves perhaps slight favourites but this really could go either way and from my perspective it won’t be a draw!
Newcastle vs Tottenham
This fixture looks set to be a mouth watering clash at St James Park with both sides raring to get all three points to head into the season on a positive note. Newcastle will look to have a full squad fit for the game although Lejeune looks set to miss the game with a knee injury. Spurs on the other hand don’t look to have key players for the game. With a plethora of players going a fair distance in the World cup such as Englands Kane and Alli two vital players for Spurs who just might travel for the visit up North. They certainly need them. It does look that it could go either way but with strong players such as Erikson and Son, Spurs look to be too strong and too classy even without their stars and it would be a dream start for Pochettino who took a big risk not signing anyone in the window .
Fulham vs Crystal Palace:
This is a game to watch I’m telling you! Fulham and Palace respectively have pulled some ace signings out of the bag. With Seri signing for Fulham and talented youngster Max Meyer signing for Palace as well as both clubs making a string of other signings this match is really one that could get the pulse racing as they both try to dominate. However with Fulhams head of steam in returning to the Premier League after a long vacation from it, I would say that Fulham are slightly more likely to take 3 points but I expect lots of goals and adventure.
Liverpool vs West Ham
I don’t think I really need to tell you who is going to win this one. Liverpool have made some superb signings this window and have two of the most expensive players for their positions on the planet and with that strike force, Liverpool are clear favourites and I think 3 points are coming to Anfield this time around. West ham have made some good signings this window such as Felipe Anderson and Issa Diop but Liverpool are too strong and real title contenders.
Arsenal vs Man City
What a fixture this is on the opening weekend of the Premier league, two premier league giants go head to head at the Emirates on Sunday. With both sides having strong squads its now a battle of the Centurions vs the Invincibles. Man city undoubtedly have a strong squad and world class players all over the pitch such as Aguero, Silva and Sane who showed their class against Chelsea as they tore them apart on Sunday. Arsenal start a new bright era headed up by Unai Emery who brings new tactics and fresh ideas to the Gooners. With new players Torreira, Sokratis and Leno as well as returning world cup faces raring to go, it is incredibly exciting. Man City are favourites in this one and rightly so but i epxect a spirited Arsenal performance with lots of goals.
